Charges pending against wrong-way driver in I-94 crash that injured 6

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Charges are pending against an alleged wrong-way driver involved in a crash that injured six people on I-94 in south suburban South Holland early Saturday.

The crash occurred at about 2:30 a.m. when a car was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-94 near 159th Street, according to Illinois State Police. Three other vehicles were also involved in the crash.

Six people were transported to hospitals after the crash, although none of their injuries appeared to be life-threatening, state police said. The wrong-way driver, a 22-year-old man, was taken to Franciscan St. Margaret Health in Indiana..

The driver of a second vehicle, a 35-year-old woman, was also taken to St. Margaret, according to state police. A 16-year-old boy who was a passenger in the vehicle was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Another passenger, a 14-year-old boy, was taken to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition, although state police said his injuries weren’t life-threatening.

Two other drivers, a 45-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman, were also taken to St. Margaret, state police said.

Lanes in both directions were closed as crews worked to clear the scene, but were reopened at 7:15 a.m., according to state police.

Charges were pending against the wrong-way driver as of Saturday morning, state police said.
