Homer Glen father charged in daughter's death released on electronic monitoring, court docs say

A Homer Glen father charged in connection with the possible overdose death of his 2-year-old daughter has been released, court documents show.

Edward Weiher, 49, was released on electronic monitoring on Jan. 6.

The backstory:

Weiher and the child's mother, Alexa Balen, 27, are facing felony charges, including endangering the life or health of a child and two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

The charges stem from November 2024, when their daughter, Trinity Balen-Weiher, died from a suspected overdose at their Homer Glen home in the 12200 block of W. Thorn Apple Drive.

According to a previous FOX 32 report, Trinity had gone limp and remained unresponsive for four hours before her parents called 911.

Weiher and Balen also ordered an Uber to deliver Narcan after they failed to resuscitate Trinity.

Both admitted to using drugs, and authorities found the home filled with drugs, feces, and bugs.

Testing revealed Trinity had fentanyl and cocaine in her system when she died, prosecutors said.

What's next:

Balen remains in the Will County Jail.

Court documents show Weiher and Balen are scheduled to return to court at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 30 for a pretrial hearing.
