Several minutes of silence were observed Monday in Highland Park to remember the victims of last week’s mass shooting. 

Today marks one week since the mass shooting in Highland Park as businesses are set to reopen with a moment of silence.

Cooper Roberts, 8, was struck once during the Highland Park parade shooting out of the more than 80 bullets that hailed down on the crowd July 4.

The family of Highland Park, Illinois parade victim Cooper Roberts, 8, said Sunday it's been “a very tough weekend” and that the boy is “in a great deal of pain – physically and emotionally – especially as the family had to share with him the devastating news that he is paralyzed from the waist down.”

Businesses in Highland Park will be allowed to reopen Sunday. However, it is not clear yet how many are ready to return.

Dr. Loren Schechter thought at first it was fireworks going off at Highland Park’s Fourth of July parade. Then, the tree next to him began shaking. A gunman’s bullets had struck it.

For some, the sadness and despair of Monday's tragedy in Highland Park has given way to anger and a call to action.

The Milwaukee Brewers placed a ceremonial jersey in their dugout Friday to honor 8-year-old Cooper Roberts, who is a fan of the team and was left paralyzed from the waist down when he was shot at the Highland Park 4th of July parade.

A former synagogue preschool teacher and two beloved grandfathers killed in the Highland Park parade shooting on the Fourth of July were laid to rest Friday.

"We were tying tourniquets. I know one guy who tied 15 tourniquets for people to not bleed out," Highland Park Fire Chief Joe Schrage said.
