Illinois adds nearly 2,000 new cases of coronavirus, including 21 deaths

Health officials on Thursday said another 1,953 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Illinois, marking the 16th straight day of daily case loads over 1,000.

Thursday’s daily case number is the highest Illinois has seen since May 24.

The Illinois Department of Public Health also announced 21 more deaths tied to the coronavirus. Five of the those deaths were in Cook County.

The state’s rolling positivity rate inched up a tenth of a percent to 4.0%, health officials said.

As of Wednesday night, 1,517 people in Illinois were hospitalized with COVID-19. Of those, 346 patients were in the ICU and 132 patients were on ventilators.
