A Chicago firefighter is throwing the ultimate back-to-school bash in memory of her son who was fatally shot earlier this year.

The South Side Memorial Day Parade brought the ceremonies and entertainment to the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on Monday, showing gratitude for the ultimate sacrifices made and recognition of those who have served in the military.

He had been shot in the stomach and wrist and was hospitalized in critical condition.

Police responded to South Ashland near 79th just before noon and found the victims had been shot in a drive-by.
