A 26-year-old man was arrested in Maywood in connection to a triple stabbing at a Las Vegas, Nevada, hotel, according to a news release from the Cook County Sheriff's office. 

Teachers of Proviso High School District 209 returned to the picket line Tuesday. 

The teachers, whose schools are located in Cook County, have been on strike over money and class size.

Two suburban officers were shot in Chicago Thursday night, according to police. 

Teachers in District 209 have been on strike since Friday and are demanding better pay. The union is asking for an increase of 12.75 percent over 3 years.

The Proviso Teachers Union, a council of the West Suburban Teachers Union, said it has made a final attempt to avoid a strike that is set for Friday.

A 30-year-old Berwyn man has been charged in a deadly armed carjacking that occurred in December 2021, police said. 

An 18-year-old Maywood man has been charged with attempting to carjack a man in Chicago's South Commons neighborhood. 

Two Chicago men have been arrested in two separate expressway shootings that occurred last year. 

Proviso District 209 is currently negotiating a new contract with the Proviso Teachers Union. The union had said members would strike on Feb. 18, they postponed the strike as negotiations continued.

During student walkouts and protests Wednesday in solidarity with the planned teachers’ strike, small fires were set in the bathrooms at Proviso East and Proviso West high schools.

Proviso students were seen walking along Maywood's 1st Avenue in the morning, standing in solidarity with their teachers.

Teachers and staff with Proviso High School District 209 are drumming up support as they prepare to walk off the job.
